Laurie M. Scherer, PsyD, MA, MS, R-DMT (she/her) is a NYS licensed clinical psychologist, dance/movement therapist, community organizer and artist based in NYC. Dubbed the “Queen of Feelings,” Dr. Laurie is known for weaving together the art and science of healing using evidence-based practices, humor, compassion, and the power of community. Dr. Laurie works with a diverse range of youth and their families in various school, community and outpatient settings. Her unique background includes mindfulness research/practice, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and crisis-intervention, SEL curriculum development, neuropsychological assessment, special education, the arts, yoga, community-building and mutual aid. She holds a doctoral degree in School and Clinical Child Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University; a Masters in Psychopathology and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University; and is trained in Dance/Movement Therapy from the Harkness Dance Center at 92Y. Dr. Laurie believes in using therapy, the arts and movement as active forces in the anti-oppression liberation of individuals and communities and brings her expertise to life in her Mindful Movement professional development workshops and wellness groups for all ages. She is also the proud Head Coach of the Latin and Ballroom Dance Club at NYU. In her spare time, she can be found venturing to the edges of NYC to explore historical nooks and cultural gems.
