Who is Genevieve?
Genevieve Marino (she/her/hers) is a NYC-based music educator, singer, yogi, and glitter goddess, whose work seeks self expression, empowerment, and greater intra/interpersonal understanding through the arts. Genevieve is currently launching a music program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 at P.S./M.S. 95, a title one public school in the Bronx. In addition to designing a music curriculum, Genevieve has acquired instruments (think: recorders, ukuleles, and just about anything that shakes, rattles and rolls!) a library of picture books, a music classroom, and produced the school’s first K-5 concert performance. She educates staff and administration on what a successful arts program needs to flourish, as well as designs approachable opportunities for students to grow and flourish at all ages and all stages in their process - especially those just starting out on their artistic journey! Genevieve is a founding member of the Glitter Goddess Collective, a community of artists and educators dedicated to exploring the intersections of learning, play, liberation and spiritual growth through interactive workshops, facilitated retreats, and community art making. Genevieve has also served as faculty member and creative head of the Dana Hall School of Music in Wellesley, MA, spearheading performance opportunities and making participation in music accessible for all students. Through reworking the traditional model of music in schools and classical music performance, she strives to make the music classroom and the stage a welcoming and meaningful space for all. In addition to her music background, Genevieve also holds her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification and has found that a challenging asana practice is one of the few things that holds her in a state of flow. Genevieve is passionate about building strength, mobility, and an appreciation of one's body through healthy alignment and enjoys sharing this with her students. Genevieve holds a Bachelors of Science in Classical Vocal Performance and Music Therapy from SUNY New Paltz, and a Masters of Arts in Music Education from Teachers College Columbia University. In her free time, Genevieve enjoys practicing yoga, singing opera, playing guitar, traveling, drinking coffee, playing dress up and having photoshoots, and being silly.
